Exploring the Beauty of Alaska: A Journey Through Tok and Anchorage
The Adventure Continues As We Cross Into The Last Frontier
SCOTT & STEVE'S ALASKAN ADVENTURE

Arriving in Alaska: A Journey Milestone
We finally made it to Alaska! It has been an adventure to remember, starting the Alaskan portion of our adventure with an overnight stay in Tok. The excitement of traveling the Alaskan Highway was palpable as we prepared to head southwest to Anchorage. If you're planning a similar road trip, let me share a few insights and experiences we’ve encountered along the way.
The Highway Experience: Challenges and Choices
One of the most talked-about parts of our journey was the Alaskan Highway stretch from Haines Junction to Tok. We spoke to a highway worker who mentioned that it was in its worst shape in several years. Naturally, this raised concerns about the road conditions. Initially, we thought about skipping the infamous "Top of the World" Highway on our way back due to rumors of rough conditions. However, the worker assured us that it was actually in better shape than reported. We are opting to take the 60 mile scenic "Top of the World" route instead of backtracking through the 200 miles of what’s aptly named “Destruction Bay.” After all, sixty miles vs. two hundred was a no-brainer!
Nature's Majesty: The Landscapes of Alaska
While the fishing has been less than productive, I can’t emphasize enough how stunning the landscapes have been. The remnants of a long winter lingered into early spring this year, leading to silted and fast-flowing waters that have hindered fish migrations. We hope that the angling patterns will improve as we settle into the Anchorage area.
From breathtaking mountain views to expansive rivers, the natural beauty around every corner has made this trip worthwhile. Alaska’s diverse landscapes offer not just a feast for the eyes but also a sense of peace and adventure. If you are considering a trip to this beautiful state, be prepared for its unique challenges and rewards.
Despite the fishing difficulties, our journey has been rich in remarkable scenery and newfound information. We are optimistic about what’s to come in Anchorage and are eager to discover the opportunities for fishing and outdoor exploration that await us. Who knows what other adventures Alaska has in store!

It is the charge of the North Louisiana Fly Fishers to afford to the general public and our members in particular, a better understanding of Fly Fishing and Fly Tying. We wish to perpetuate the sport as a most pleasurable and exciting fishing method and provide education, instructions and the opportunities for relaxation to the membership.
The North Louisiana Fly Fishers (NLFF) serves the Ark-La-Tex area surrounding Shreveport. As the closest cold water fishery, we consider the Little Missouri (Little Mo') river near Murfreesboro, AR our home waters. We also fish the local rivers and lakes. We even have a growing group of kayak fishermen that, as well as the local rivers and lakes, will fish the gulf coast marshes for some saltwater action!
